Hello, I'm Ewald Benes.

I build web apps that turn into profitable companies. Right now 110% of my time is focused on building and maintaining two SaaS products.

Additionally, I help small developer teams make the switch from customer-tailored web app offerings to fully-fledged SaaS solutions.

Web Apps & Software I've built

This is a list of software that is publicly accessible. Everything I built as an employee I may not show here.

  • 2025 - Present

    AI Sales Assistant

Currently developing an AI-powered sales assistant for the insurance industry. The system automates both the pre- and post-sales funnels for agencies. It is working productively, supporting a team of 25 sales reps, though it remains in the MVP phase. The long-term goal is to evolve this into a full SaaS offering. Public release is under consideration.

  • 2023 - Present

    Gokartbooking

Built a B2B booking, resource management, and marketing platform for go-kart and racing track owners. Offers an out-of-the-box solution tailored for this niche market. Originated from the Open Racer platform. Since summer 2023, it has grown to 8 customers.

  • 2021 - Present

    Moodboard AI

Co-created a SaaS product for the interior design space, inspired by a designer who needed a mood board creation tool. Later integrated AI features, which gave customers the ability to produce design inspiration in a fraction of the time, dramatically improving efficiency.

  • 2018 - Present

    Open Racer

An online community and resource hub for racing enthusiasts, inspired by a personal go-karting hobby. Grew to 100k unique monthly visitors. Although monetization attempts were unsuccessful, the platform is still running and continues to serve a world-wide audience.

  • 2015 - 2018

    Team Challenge

A B2B SaaS app designed to promote workplace health and wellbeing through gamification. Employees use step counters, enter their progress into the web app, and collectively advanced along a virtual journey across Europe, keeping them highly motivated. Eventually discontinued due to shifting priorities.

  • Ansible SQLite CLI

I make heavy use of SQLite in my web applications. Itʼs an extremely capable piece of software. Thanks to D. Richard Hipp for this wonderful contribution! This is a FOSS Ansible role that installs the SQLite CLI on all my development and production servers. Feel free to use it too or suggest improvements, if you like.

When working with him, he asks the right questions in places that didn’t seem important to me, and he takes 100% ownership of the project – from start to finish. About Ewald

Hi there! My nameʼs Ewald, and I like to build web apps that grow into profitable businesses. Right now, 110% of my time is dedicated to building and maintaining my two latest SaaS products:
Gokartbooking and AI Sales Assistant.

My mission is to help small developer teams make the switch from customer-tailored web app offerings to fully-fledged SaaS solutions.

Iʼm also an independent software development consultant, formerly at Verizon. Currently I'm advising three companies in the food industry, HR, and engineering.

I hold a Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering and Business Administration from Graz University of Technology, earned in 2012. Throughout my academic and professional career, Iʼve developed software in various domains, e.g., robotics, logistics, e-commerce, simulations, and statistics. Iʼve made plenty of mistakes as a developer—ones I wish someone had warned me about—and after 20 years of coding, I still see the same patterns repeat. I believe we can do better. Thatʼs why I started my consulting practice and developed a method I call DeCarg.

My mother tongue is German. I also speak English, Spanish, a little French and a few words in Thai. Originally from Austria, over the time I lived in Spain, Colombia, France and Austria. I have a wonderful family with a lovely daughter, and currently we live a tranquil life in Graz, Austria.
